In pictures: The very biggest and best moments from the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha

We've had all the moans about lack of fans, lack of GB medals and lack of judgement over the choice of venue, but when it came to the athletics per se, the World Championships in Doha gave us some memorable moments.

From spectacular world records to controversial outbursts, the ten days in Qatar had it all.

Here, we look back at 10 of the most memorable moments from the latest instalment of elite level athletics.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

Just two years after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce gave birth to her first child she is yet again the 100m world champion.

It was a fourth title in the flagship discipline for the Jamaican as she posted a 10.71 to beat Dina Asher-Smith by a clear margin.

A dominant display of sprinting, the 32-year-old sent out a major statement ahead of the Olympics next year.

Dina Asher-Smith

GB's star of Doha was Dina Asher-Smith after she added the gold medal in the 200m to the silver she picked up in the 100m.

In the absence of Shaunae Miller-Uibo, the Briton was completely untouchable as she ran a superb bend and strode home with time to take in what she was about to achieve.

Fraser-Pryce will be an extremely difficult woman to beat in the 100m next year, but Asher-Smith can begin to dream of an Olympic double.

Sifan Hassan does the double

Speaking of doubles, Sifan Hassan completed one of her own at the 2019 championships, claiming the 1500m and 10,000m titles.

After running a majestic 10k in a world leading time of 30 minutes and 17 seconds, she then followed it up with utter dominance in the 1500m, setting a new championship record of 3:51:95.

She also made headlines for more controversial reasons, but we'll come onto that shortly.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson takes heptathlon title

Katarina Johnson-Thompson knew she was going to have to get the better of European champion Nafissatou Thiam if she was to taste gold medal success in the heptathlon.

The performance the Brit put in was one which surpassed Jessica Ennis-Hill's British record in the event as she beat Thiam by a huge 301 points.

Nia Ali stuns Williams to take 100m hurdles

Nia Ali caused one of the biggest upsets of the championships with her victory in the 100m hurdles.

The pre-race favourite and 2015 world champion Danielle Williams had to settle for bronze as the Americans continued to dominate on the track.

Sifan Hassan outburst over Salazar doping scandal

The biggest moment off the track came following Hassan's 1500m success when she said in her post-race interview that she was a clean athlete despite her connections to recently disgraced coach Alberto Salazar.

"This was a very hard week for me and I was just so angry. I've been clean all my life. I work hard.

"I couldn't talk to anyone. I just ran all out. I just want to show people that hard work can be better than everything."

Ugandan Halimah Nakaayi upsets Ajee Wilson in 800m

Uganda claimed their first ever medal at the World Athletics Championships through 800m runner Halimah Nakaayi.

The favourite, American Ajee Wilson, looked primed to take the win but faded in the home straight as she had to settle for third.

Kelsey-Lee Barber clinches javelin gold in dramatic fashion

Australian javelin thrower Kelsey-Lee Barber produced one of the most enthralling moments of the ten days in Doha.

With the Chinese duo of Liu Shiying (65.75m) and Lyu Huihui (65.49m) closing in on a one-two, Barber threw a massive 66.56m to jump from fourth to first and claim the title.

At a championships where Australia managed just two medals, the 28-year-old was her country's only victorious athlete.

21-year-old sensation Salwa Eid Naser blitzes 400m

Salwa Eid Nasar picked up the silver medal in the 400m at the world champinships two years ago at the age of just 19.

But in Doha she really made a name for herself as she posted the third fastest time ever run by a woman to win the one-lap race in a time of 48.14 seconds.

Dalilah Muhammad and another world record

Finally, it wouldn't be a World Athletics Championships without a world record being broken.

And it was Dalilah Muhammad who provided the goods as she beat her own previous record to win the 400m hurdles in a scintillating time of 52.16 seconds.
