Australian figure skater Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya dead aged 20 after reportedly falling from window

Australian figure skater Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya has been found dead at the age of just 20.

Although the cause of the youngster’s death has not yet been confirmed, local reports in Moscow claim it was the result of a fall from a window on Friday.

Alexandrovskaya, also known as Katia, was born in Russia but competed for Australia.

She won a world title as a junior before competing at the Winter Olympics in Pyeong Chang in 2018.

However, she announced her retirement from figure skating back in February following a number of injuries.

After hearing of her death, long-term skating partner Harley Windsor spoke of his shock and devastation at the news.

He said: "Words can not describe how I feel right now, I am devastated and sick to my core about the sad and sudden passing of Katia.

"The amount we had achieved during our partnership is something I can never forget and will always hold close to my heart.

"This news is something you can never prepare for. Rest In Peace Katia."

And chief executive of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, Geoff Lipshut, added: "Ms Alexandrovskaya has a special place in the country's sports history. Katia and Harley were Australia's first figure skating world champions.

"She came to Australia to fulfil her sporting dreams. My thoughts are with Katia's family in Russia, Harley and the skating community in Australia.

"I will remember Katia as a young person of great talent and remarkable potential."
