Anthony Joshua believes there could be a women's fight on the undercard of his fight in Saudi Arabia

Anthony Joshua says there could be a women's fight on the undercard of his bout with Andy Ruiz in Saudi Arabia on December 7.

The choice of location has been widely criticised owing to the country's record of human rights abuses and the attitude towards women and gay people.

But Joshua, who will look to regain the three world heavyweight titles he lost to Ruiz back in June, has played down the controversy.

He told BBC 5 Live Boxing: "We are looking at potentially putting a woman on the undercard.

"We've listened to the critics and asked questions to organisers. The event will be spectacular, no doubt about it.

"We hear they are building the grassroots out there. What boxing has done for the likes of myself, building confidence, this is what boxing is to Saudi Arabia. It's not just two men coming together to fight."

Unified world lightweight champion Katie Taylor competed on the undercard of the first fight between Joshua and Ruiz in New York back in June.

But it appears she will not be doing so this time as promoter Eddie Hearn has hinted she could be fighting on her own show in Manchester on November 2.

Meanwhile, several other women's fighters under Hearn's Matchroom Boxing banner could feature as warm-up bouts for the heavyweight clash such as Savannah Marshall, Shannon Courtenay, Natasha Jonas and Amanda Serrano.

Elsewhere in women's boxing, Nicola Adams will defend her WBO World Flyweight title on September 27 against Mexican Maria Salinas.
