Australia's Sophie Molineux is set to take a break from cricket in order to focus on her mental health and well-being. 

The 21 year-old has played for the Melbourne Renegades in this season's Women's Big Bash league and has scored 101 runs across all 10 games.

Renegades head coach Tim Coyle said: "Sophie knows her team-mates and the Renegades coaches and support staff are always there for her.

"We’ll give Sophie the time, space and any support she needs."

Molineux made her international debut for the women's T20 World Cup squad in 2018 and has been working towards sealing her spot with the national team ahead of next year's T20 event. 

Australia's team doctor Pip Inge said Cricket Australia will provide her with "the support she needs".

She continued: "The welfare of our players is a priority and we are proud of the brave decision by Sophie to step away from the game."

She is one of several Australian cricketers taking a break from the game. Elite male players Glenn Maxwell, Nic Maddinson and Will Pucovski all recently announced that they will be temporarily taking time off for the same reasons. 

Mikinley Blows will be replacing Molineux's place in the Renegades squad.
