England World Cup cricketer Jofra Archer calls for more stringent punishments for racial abuse on social media

England bowler Jofra Archer is calling for harsher punishments for racist abuse on social media.

The 24 year-old, who was England's hero in the super over that saw them win the 2019 Cricket World Cup, shared a photo of the abuse he has received on his Instagram story.

Below the screenshots he wrote: "I [have] given a lot of thought about reacting to this and I hope that no one else has to deal with stuff like this on a regular basis, it isn't ever acceptable and should be addressed properly in my opinion.

"I will never understand how people feel so freely to say these things to another human being it baffles me."

Archer posted the screenshots on his Instagram page (Instagram: @jofraarcher)

Archer previously spoke out when he was racially abused in New Zealand while he walked back to the pavilion during England's test match defeat to New Zealand.

He said: "A bit disturbing hearing racial insults today while battling to help save my team.

"The crowd has been amazing this week except for that one guy. The Barmy Army was good as usual also."

New Zealand cricket said afterwards that a 28  year-old man admitted the offence and has been banned from international and domestic games in New Zealand for two years.
