Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney shone as they steered defending champions Australia to a staggering 86-run victory over Bangladesh in their Women's T20 World Cup group A match in Canberra.

Australia recovered from their turbulent batting display against Sri Lanka, led by Healey at the top of the innings as the opener stormed her way to 83 before falling to Murshida Khatun, the only Australian wicket to fall.

The two Aussie openers shared a 151-run opening stand and when Healey fell, Mooney continued her form, striking an unbeaten 81 and finished the innings alongside Ashleigh Gardner who hit 22 from nine as the hosts finished their 20 overs on 189-1.

In reply, Bangladesh were unable to gain any momentum due largely to the pace and accuracy of Megan Schutt, who took 3-21.

They also stuttered where the Australian players showed their superior fielding prowess, capitalising on run-out opportunities and clinging on to catches where Bangladesh failed.

The only batter to put up any resistance was Fargane Hoque Pinky who top-scored with 36 from 35 balls, but having taken 12 overs to get into gear, it was all too late.

Bangladesh capitulated towards the end and in a  somewhat fitting chaotic finish, suffered two run-outs in two balls and limped over the 100 mark finishing their chase on103-9.

The day proved particularly fruitful for Healy who emerged not only victorious but with three new records to her name; most runs by a wicket-keeper at the Women's T20 World Cup, most dismissals by a keeper at the Women's T20 World Cup, and most runs in an innings by a keeper at the Women's T20 World Cup.

Australia are looking on course to qualify for the semi-finals despite their surprising defeat to India in their opening game and will head into their final group game against New Zealand in Melbourne on Monday feeling optimistic.

For Bangladesh, their World Cup dreams are all-but over and they must win against New Zealand on Saturday if they are to stand any chance of advancing.
