Everton manager Willie Kirk has praised his players for the way they have dealt with the mid-season disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Women's Super League fixtures have not taken place since February 23 and all English football has been suspended until at least April 30.

Yet despite the fact that the players have been training on their own for nearly a month, Kirk insists he has been pleasantly surprised by how they have adapted.

Speaking on the club website, he said: "I’ve been hugely impressed with how everyone involved with Everton Women has responded to the unprecedented situation we find ourselves in.

"The players have all got individual programmes to work on at home and their application has been exceptional.

"We have been able to buy fitness equipment that we’ve had delivered to them, which has been very beneficial. That’s allowing them to do very good fitness sessions indoors or in the garden, whatever works best for them.

"Some of them are using this break as an opportunity to do rehab work or strengthen in certain areas. They’ve all been superb."

Everton are currently seventh in the WSL, four points behind fourth-place Manchester United with eight games remaining.

Kirk's side are also in the quarter-finals of the Women's FA Cup, where they have been drawn at home to Chelsea.

The FA recently revealed they are still hopeful the WSL season can be finished by early August.
