Australian rugby league legend Ali Brigginshaw has announced her engagement after proposing to girlfriend Kate Daly.

The captain of the Brisbane Broncos was out celebrating her 30th birthday when she popped the question to her partner of 16 months.

Before asking the important question Brigginshaw, on one knee, said: "I will never forget the day you asked me to be your girlfriend, 16 months to this day.

"And I hope you will never forget this moment. I love you with all my heart and will you marry me?"

In an Instagram post Daly wrote: "I am so overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we have received and I am so happy to say YES to you."

The player has been a part of the new National Women's Rugby League, which has been up and running for two seasons.

The Broncos have been back-to-back champions of the competition and a photo of Brigginshaw kissing Daly after the team's win at the final in 2018 went viral.

Brigginshaw was also a part of the ground-breaking World Cup Nines competition with Australia, the tournament paid women in the sport for the first time.
