Caroline Wozniacki poses for Sports Illustrated photoshoot shortly after announcing retirement from tennis

Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki has given a clue about life after tennis in a photoshoot for Sports Illustrated.

The 29-year-old donned a bikini and posed on the beach in the Turks and Caicos Islands just days after announcing that she will retire from the sport following the Australian Open in January.

The former world No 1 and 2018 Australian Open champion has since dropped to 38 in the WTA rankings and has not competed since reaching the semi-finals at the China Open in October.

She has dismissed claims that retirement was health-related despite being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and says there are other paths she looks to explore.

“I’ve always told myself when the time comes that there are things away from tennis that I want to do more, then it’s time to be done," she said.

“In recent months, I’ve realised that there is a lot more in life that I’d like to accomplish off the court.

“This has nothing to do with my health and this isn’t a goodbye. I look forward to sharing my exciting journey ahead with all of you!”

She has recently enrolled at Harvard Business School and also says she and husband David Lee, who plays for the New York Knicks, are hoping to start a family.
