England's Nikita Parris says the players, not manager Phil Neville, are to blame for 'awful' form
England player Nikita Parris has said that the players are to blame for the team's recent poor form, not manager Phil Neville.
England have lost seven of their last 11 matches and they failed to defend their SheBelieves Cup title following two defeats against the US and Spain.
While Parris believes in Neville, she does concede that he has protected them too much since the World Cup last summer.
"It’s a disappointing way to end the tournament. We haven’t been good enough and we’ve got to find a way to get back on track.
"I do trust in what he wants to do. It’s us, we are not delivering.
"Too many of us are living off the hype of the World Cup. We haven’t improved and we have to take responsibility. Phil has protected us for far too long and ultimately we have got to step up."
She also labelled England's recent form as 'terrible and awful'.
"If you are playing for England, if you step onto that field with an England shirt on your back then you better be ready to deliver and I don’t think we have been.
"We haven’t delivered in the past seven or eight months. It’s terrible, it’s awful, there’s no buttering it."
