A former Juventus chief has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo for posting pictures by the pool in Madeira while his team-mates are at home self-isolating.

Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, who became club chairman in 2006, said he felt the Italian club haven't handled the coronavirus pandemic well.

The 75 year-old told Radio Punto: "Things at Juventus got complicated when Cristiano Ronaldo left. He said he was going to Portugal because of his mother, but now he only appears to be taking pictures by the pool.

"When the exception was made for him, things fell apart and others wanted to leave - but it shouldn't have been like this. They all should have been quarantined."

"Criticising now is easy but from the outside I don't know why players wanted to leave Italy.

"When they return it'll be more difficult to get back in shape because they'll have to stay in quarantine for 14 days."

Ronaldo has returned to Madiera, a Portuguese island, while his team mates Paulo Dybala, Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi have all tested positive for the virus.

He has since been pictured isolating with his family in his mansion on the island.

Ronaldo first went back to Portugal to visit his mother who had a stroke earlier this month. 

He returned to Italy for Juventus' match, behind closed doors, against Inter Milan and then returned to Madiera.
