FA calls on fans to support their local teams for 'Women's Football Weekend'

The FA has announced its first ever Women's Football Weekend in order to capitalise on the record-breaking attendances atthe start of the WSL season. 

Supporters are being called upon to attend a women's football match at any level on the weekend of November 16 and 17 while the English Premier League and EFL calendars pause for an international break.

Women's Professional Game Director at the FA, Kelly Simmons said: "We are excited to announce the first ever Women's Football Weekend for what is sure to be another great moment in a year that has seen a huge momentum behind the growth in popularity of women's football.

"Following on from a record-breaking FIFA Women's World Cup and opening Barclays FA Women's Super League weekend, there has never been a better time to visit your local team.

"We encourage all supporters to get involved at all levels of the pyramid on 16-17 November." 

The announcement was made following a record breaking opening weekend for the Women's Super League which saw more than 62,000 supporters attend opening day fixtures in what the FA hopes to be the biggest year ever for women's football.
