Liverpool star Christie Murray surprises girls at half-term football camp

Liverpool midfielder Christie Murray surprised young fans by turning up at a half-term football camp for girls.

The 29-year-old hosted a Q&A session with the youngsters at Woodchurch High School Sports Complex, who were delighted to see a member of the first team squad.

Murray also coached many of the 80 girls at the camp as they got involved in a number of different drills and games.

"It was great to come down and get involved in LFC Foundation’s girls' football camp today,” Murray said.

"The girls have fantastic attitudes and it was great to see so many players of different abilities loving and playing the game!”

Liverpool are currently struggling at the foot of the Women's Super League table, but are just one point off moving above Birmingham and out of the relegation zone.

And the co-ordinator of the event, Leah McAteer Thompson, appreciated Murray taking the time out of her own schedule to spend time with the girls.

"It was great to have Christie down to the session – she is a fantastic role model for youngsters wanting to play the game," Thompson added.

"We're thrilled with the success of our female only three-day football camp, which saw over 80 young girls attend every day.

"There was even a spontaneous indoor Yoga session for the girls when the rain got a bit too heavy – a unique experience for the girls and positive ending to a fantastic week!"
