Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker in self-isolation after son shows symptoms of coronavirus

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has gone into self-isolation because his son George has begun to show symptoms of coronavirus.

The ex Spurs, Barcelona and Everton striker revealed his son had lost his 'sense of taste and smell' which are said to be some of the lesser known signs of having COVID-19.

And given Linker has come into contact with George over the past seven days, he has now taken the advice of the government and decided to self-isolate.

Speaking on Twitter, he said: "In self isolation as @GeorgeLineker has symptoms. They’re not the regular ones, but complete loss of sense of taste and smell.

"Odd these have not been pointed out much. Been nearly a week and has spent time at mine. I’ve been vigilant, hand washing/distancing but isolation it is.

He later added: "Worth being careful if you lose your sense of taste and smell. You could unknowingly have the virus. I checked all this with a doctor before sharing the information. Stay safe."

The UK now has 5,683 people who have tested positive for the virus and a death toll of 281.
