US football star Alex Morgan expecting first baby just months before Olympics

Team USA World Cup winner Alex Morgan has announced she is expecting her first baby next April, just three months before the start of the Olympics in Tokyo.

The 30-year-old announced the news on twitter with an image of herself with a sign reading "Baby girl April 2020" and her husband, LA Galaxy star Servando Carrasco holding a baby grow captioned "ready or not".

Morgan was joint top goal-scorer at this summer's tournament alongside countrywoman Megan Rapinoe and England's Ellen White and now boasts back-to-back World Cup titles.

She has scored 107 times for her country in 169 appearances and was named in the FIFPro World XI in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and is thus considered one of the World's most influential players.

The expectant mother has not yet announced her intentions regarding availability for the Olympics which are due to start on July 24.

In 2016 the US suffered a shock penalty shoot-out defeat to Sweden in the quarter-final and will be hoping Morgan is back in the line-up as they go for gold in Tokyo.
