Khadijah Mellah makes history by winning the Magnolia Cup

Khadijah Mellah wrote her name into the history books by winning the charity Magnolia Cup race by the smallest of margins at Goodwood today.

The 18-year-old was the first British female muslim jockey and proudly wore her hijab underneath her riding hat.

Other racers included Team GB Olympic Gold medallist Victoria Pendleton and notable females from the worlds of business, sport, fashion and broadcasting.

The victory rounded off a fairytale journey for Mellah who learnt to ride at the charity Ebony Horse Club and only mounted a racehorse for the first time in April.

Mellah is hoping her story can inspire other female muslim girls to follow their dreams in the same way she has.
