Katie Boulter battles back from set down to beat Jodie Burrage and clinch Progress Tour Women’s Championship

Katie Boulter fought back from a set down to beat compatriot Jodie Burrage and clinch the Progress Tour Women’s Championship title.

The 23 year-old, who was returning from four months out with a back injury, won a thrilling final 3-6 7-6 (4) 6-2 in two hours and 12 minutes in Roehampton.

Boulter is continuing her return from an injury which saw her drop well down the rankings (PA)

Despite Burrage being the higher-ranked player at world No 289, it was Boulter who came in as the favourite due to her career-high ranking of No 82 last year before her injury.

But the Leicester-born player did not get off to the best start after she was broken twice as Burrage took the first set.

The pair then traded two breaks apiece in the second set before Boulter put a run together where she won five points out of six during the tie-break to send the match to a decider.

And she made Burrage pay in the final set as she raced into a 5-1 lead and never let up, closing out the match in style with a dominant service game to love.

After the match, Boulter said: "I'm happy to get the win.

"Sometimes you've just got to find a way and I felt like I did that today. To get my body through five matches is a huge bonus for me - that was the aim I came into this week with."

Last year, Boulter equalled her best result at a Grand Slam when she reached the second round of the Australian Open.

She will be hoping she can re-discover that form later this year during the US Open and re-scheduled French Open.
