Natasha Jonas ‘very confident’ ahead of clash with Terri Harper in ‘monumental night for female British boxing’

Liverpudlian Natasha Jonas is ‘very confident’ she can beat Terri Harper to become WBC Super-Featherweight Champion on Friday night.

Jonas and Harper are facing off behind closed doors at ‘Fight Camp’ in Essex in what will be the first ever all-British women’s world title fight.

And while champion Harper heads into the clash as the favourite, Olympian Jonas believes she is the one with the upper hand.

"She (Harper) is fit, young, hungry - all those things can be negatives. Yes she is fit but has she over-trained? She's hungry but does that make you too eager?,” she told BBC’s 5 Live Podcast.

"She's young but does that make you inexperienced?

"I think I beat her in every single one of those categories. In this camp I have trained like I did before the Olympics. Talk about turning back the clock - my times are faster, I'm stronger, fitter - the things she maybe edged me on I have improved on and that will show on Friday.

"I think there's nothing she can bring we haven't prepared for so I'm very confident."

Jonas, who is the sister of England and Lyon forward Nikita Parris, has lost just once in ten professional fights.

And the 36-year-old realises what a huge night this is for women’s boxing in Britain.

"This is monumental for female British boxing," she added. " We have class women boxers, we just need people to see it."
