England cricketer Lauren Winfield has spoken for the first time about her wedding to rugby league star Courtney Hill.

Hill, from Australia, but who plays for Leeds Rhinos, flew home to watch Winfield in the T20 Women's Cricket World Cup and after the tournament finished the couple got married.

The pair were lucky to have had their ceremony as just over a week after they were married, lockdowns were enforced in Australia that would have seen their wedding cancelled.

"It’s crazy to think that a week later and the wedding would have been cancelled. It all kicked off a week after the wedding," said Winfield.

"It was absolutely fine getting people over here, before the really scary stuff and the lockdowns. In terms of the UK and Australia, they were both functioning as they were. Ten days on and it’s bloody mental," she said in an exclusive interview with The Independent.
