Sports promoter Barry Hearn in 'good spirits' following minor heart attack

Legendary sports promoter Barry Hearn was rushed to hospital on Sunday after suffering a minor heart attack, his son Eddie has confirmed.

The 71-year-old underwent an operation and is expected to be discharged later today.

Hearn's son Eddie, who is also well known as one of the world's biggest boxing promoters, said: "As if we can’t thank the NHS enough, I want to particularly thank the staff at Broomfield & Basildon. 

"My dad Barry Hearn was taken to hospital on Sunday after a minor heart attack and was operated on yesterday. He is up and well and returns home today in good spirits!Thank you."

Barry Hearn is the current chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation and the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.

He also owned Leyton Orient FC between 1995 and 2014 and has promoted some of the biggest British boxers of all-time such as Lennox Lewis, Nigel Benn, Naseem Hamed, Chris Eubank Snr and Frank Bruno.

The Dagenham-born businessman also has stakes in other sports such as golf, tenpin bowling, table tennis and fishing.
