Tennis star Johanna Konta 'hopeful' Wimbledon will go ahead

British tennis player Johanna Konta has said she's hopeful Wimbledon will go ahead in June.

The French Open has been moved from June to September and all WTA and ATP tournaments have been called off until the beginning of June due to the coronavirus.

Wimbledon is due to start on June 29 and tennis bosses will decide next month if they call off the event for the first time since the second world war.

Konta, 28, said: “More than anything it’s important to be hopeful. There is nothing wrong with being hopeful. Equally, for me right now it’s about not looking too far ahead.

"We don’t know how it’s going to develop. Now we know we are not playing until the beginning of June. That’s the date we are working towards.

“When that changes, if it changes, we’ll react to whatever comes next,” she told The Telegraph.
