'Transgender boxing is not accepted', says World Boxing Council President Sulaiman

Transgender boxing is not something the World Boxing Council will allow to be sanctioned under their rules and regulations, according to President Mauricio Sulaiman.

The WBC is one of four major world governing bodies in the sport along with the WBA, WBO and IBF.

And in an Instagram Live video answering fans' questions, the 50-year-old also ruled out the possibility of women's boxing being changed from two to three minute rounds or moving women's world title fights from ten rounds to 12 in the near future.

As reported first by Michael Benson on Twitter, Sulaiman said: "The WBC will never allow three minute rounds or 12 round fights until it is medically proven that it is safe to do so.

"Transgender is not accepted because there is a difference between a man and a woman...the WBC does not accept transgender boxing.

"There's only male and female, there is no in between. People say that it has to be the same. So you mean we have to do pregnancy tests to men as well? It's a really big difference."
