Katie Ormerod becomes first Briton to win World Cup snowboard title

Katie Ormerod has created history by becoming the first Brit to win a snowboard World Cup title.

The 22 year-old won the Snowboard Slopestyle Crystal Globe and was top of the standings with one event left in the competition.

But the event, due to take place later this month in the Czech Republic, was cancelled due to concerns over the coronavirus.

It was Ormerod's first season back on the World Cup circuit after she sustained a serious injury two years ago.

Afterwards she said: "My comeback season has turned out to be the best season of my career so far and it’s been so much fun."

She is the second Brit to win the Crystal Globe title but the first in snowboarding, with James Woods winning the ski equivalent in 2013.

Ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang she suffered a broken wrist before going on to injure her heel during training, which required several operations.
