The Women’s European Championships, due to take place next summer, have now been moved back a year to 2022, according to the Danish FA.

The tournament was set to be held in England from July 7 to August 1 next year, but has now been pushed back after the men’s Euro’s and the rearranged Tokyo Olympic Games were moved to the summer of 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The teams which have already qualified are England, the Netherlands and Sweden. But qualification still goes on as Scotland are second in Group E and Wales are second in Group C.

Northern Ireland are in fourth place in Wales’ group, and the Republic of Ireland are top of Group I.

Official confirmation of the postponement has yet to be announced, but the Danish FA broke the news on their official website.

The women’s head coach of the Danish squad Lars Søndergaard said: “Personally, I would have preferred that our European Championships were just moved a handful of days and thereby still played in the summer of 2021. It is really unfortunate.”

England manager Phil Neville’s contract will now run out before the new date and it is unknown whether his contract will be extended.

A further clash is presented as the Commonwealth Games are taking place in Birmingham during the summer of 2021.
