Women's FA Cup could be completed at the start of next season

The Football Association are planning to finish the Women’s FA Cup and it could mean tying up the competition at the start of next season.

The tournament was heading into its quarter-finals just as it was suspended and, despite cancelling the Women’s Super League, the governing body are keen to complete the FA Cup according to The Telegraph.

It is understood there is growing support to play the last three rounds of the cup as they could be fitted in at the start of next season or be used as warm-up games in pre-season.

Everton, Chelsea, Leicester City, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton and Birmingham City all made it to the quarter-finals.

The FA want to discuss the situation further with clubs on Thursday but its unclear whether a decision will come from that.

During discussions, the governing body is also said to be speaking about the financial issues clubs are facing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the impact of cancelling the WSL.
