Watch Lizelle Lee hit maiden century as South Africa sweep Thailand aside in T20 World Cup

South African opener Lizelle Lee recorded her first T20 International century as she catapulted her team to a convincing 113-run victory over World Cup debutants Thailand in their Group B game.

Lee stormed to 101 from just 60 balls, bringing up the triple digits with a boundary before falling immediately caught and bowled to Suleeporn Laomi.

She was supported by Sune Luus who hit an unbeaten 61 as South Africa smashed 195-3 from their 20 overs, the highest total in Women's T20 World Cup history.

Thailand's response was futile and despite some sloppy fielding from the Proteas they slumped to 89 all out from 19.1 overs to leave South Africa with two wins from two games and sitting top of the group.

The South African bowlers were visibly boosted by the work of their batters, and Luus continued her excellent form with the bat to take 3-15 from her four overs and Shabnim Ismail took two in two balls to remove Nannapat Koncharoenkai and Naruemol Chaiwai.

After the game Lee said: "It was one of those days when it came off for me. We struggled a bit in the powerplay but then I had a really good partnership with Sune Luus."

She acknowledged her lack of form thus far during their World Cup Campaign adding: "It hasn't come off for me in the last few games but I'm happy it did today and it gives me confidence for the rest of the tournament."

Thailand Captain  Sornnarin Tippoch said: "All credit to Lizelle, she hit the ball really hard, but we didn't get the lines and lengths right so there are things to improve on with our bowling and our fielding as well."

South Africa's next game is against 2016 champions, West Indies on Tuesday, while Thailand play Pakistan earlier on the same day, both at the Sydney Showground.
