Fallon Sherrock's record-breaking fairytale journey comes to an end after 4-2 defeat to Chris Dobey

The Queen of Ally Pally Fallon Sherrock' fairytale has come to an end after a 4-2 defeat to world No 22 Chris Dobey in a nail-biting third round in the World Darts Championship at Ally Pally.

The 25 year-old became the first woman in history to win against a man on the world stage when she beat Ted Evetts in the first round. She later followed this up by sealing victory against world No 11 Mensur Suljovic.

But in the third round, Sherrock got off to a shakey start after she crashed in three maximums in the opening two legs. But she ended up converting with a 77 finish to snatch the first set from Dobey.

But Dobey, 29, didn't let the ecstatic crowd knock his form after he levelled to seal the second set.

There was no stopping Sherrock as she left the crowd in absolute awe, again, after she led the way in the third set. She came out on top after she punished Dobey with a 45 finish.

Dobey then gained another set with a 16-darter after Sherrock missed a dart at the bull in the final leg. He soon after secured the fifth set and led 3-2.

But it was game over for Sherrock after Dobey remained consistent and hit a 141 checkout and averaged 101 to claim his spot in the last 16.

Sherrock in a post-match interview said: "I tell you what, I've actually enjoyed myself so much.

"Chris played so well and unfortunately it wasn't my result but I can't take it away from him.

"I didn't think this was ever possible but yeah thank you to everyone, this is amazing.

"Hopefully I can see it again because it's just unbelievable."

Dobey on his victorious performance said: "I knew what I had to do from the start. I said in an interview time after time, this girl can play and I needed to be at my best.

"She's been astonishing today and she fully deserves all this support."

Sherrock will now focus on the women's BDO World Championships next month.
