Chelsea manager Emma Hayes apologises for Liverpool pitch comments

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has apologised for calling Liverpool's Prenton Park pitch 'the worst in the Women's Super League'.

The boss lashed out after yesterday's 1-1 draw. Hayes even suggested given the men's side are so successful they should invest in the women's game as they 'deserved better' than the current pitch condition .

The 43-year-old wrote on Twitter: "Thanks to the fans for coming out yesterday. @LiverpoolFCW are a wonderful team with a fabulous manager and deserved the point against us. 

"Also I apologise for my frustration regarding the pitch. You deserve better. I’m sorry for my comments."

Liverpool manager Vicky Jepson promptly replied to Hayes' apology with: "Thanks for all your support @emmahayes1 have a fab Xmas and I’ll see you in the New Year."

Liverpool are in a relegation battle with Bristol City in the league. After their clash with Chelsea The Reds moved to second from bottom leaving City in last place.

Chelsea are sitting in third, four points behind league leaders Arsenal.
