Amanda Anisimova withdraws from US Open following death of her father

Amanda Anisimova has withdrawn from the US Open following the death of her father.

The American made her debut at the New York-based Grand Slam in 2018 at the age of just 16 and was beaten in the first round by fellow US player Taylor Townsend.

She then went on to beat defending champion Simona Halep in a breakthrough performance at Roland Garros on her way to the semi-finals.

Rising US prospect Coco Gauff was quick to take to Twitter to comfort the 17-year-old.

The US Open begins on August 26 as Naomi Osaka looks to defend the women's title she won last year when she beat Serena Williams in the final.
