WWE confirm first time clash between Shayna Baszler and Asuka on Raw
WWE star Shayna Baszler is set to face Asuka for the first time on Raw this evening.
Baszler, the former MMA fighter, signed for WWE in 2017. She created history a year later when she became the first wrestler to hold the NXT women's belt twice in the same year. She held the title for a combined record of 556 days.
Asuka won the NXT title in 2016 against Bayley and since then was crowned Smackdown women's champion in 2018. She is also the current champion in the women's tag team alongside Kairi Sane.
Baszler told New York Post: "When I came in and Asuka was still there and I was kind of sitting and waiting and waiting, waiting, that was the match I wanted from day one.
"Who doesn’t want to chase the champ? That unfortunately didn’t happen."
But that is all set to change as the two champions will get to battle it out at the Barclays Center in New York.
Baszler is excited about the clash as it gets her 'creative juices flowing' and that she gets to think of 'new ways to make people bend in ways they’re not supposed to'.
She added: "I think for my own selfish reasons I love this and I think it will shut all the fans up for sure."
