England and Manchester City star Ellen White has said it will be 'interesting' to see how Chelsea's new signing Sam Kerr will 'withstand' the Women's Super League.

The Australian international announced her move from the National Women's Soccer League side Chicago Red Stars last month.

And White is intrigued to see how the high-profile forward will fare in the English game.

She said: “I’ve watched her for many years and she’s a fantastic player. She’s done great things in America and it shows how strong our league is that she’s wanting to come over here.

“It will be interesting to see how she withstands the English game and playing in this league. It’s the most competitive league that we’ve had, so it’s going to be an exciting year.”

White is part of the City team who are in a top of the table fight with Arsenal and Chelsea as the three sides battle it out for the title.

And it's not just the competitive edge of the league that is proving captivating this season, it is also the crowd attendances which have impressed.

City played rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in September and secured the second largest crowd in WSL history with just over 31,000 fans in attendance.

However, White says the women's league needs to focus on selling out their own grounds before they look to the bigger stadiums more regularly.

“It’s about people coming back and watching WSL games week on week, not just when we’re playing at big stadiums," she added.

“If we are getting more people to games, those in charge are more inclined to want us to play at those stadiums.

“We were really proud to play at the Etihad. The numbers were incredible and hopefully we can continue to play in front of those bigger crowds in the future.”

Man City take on title rivals Chelsea this Sunday at 12pm, a game which is being shown live on the FA Player App.
